Hey there everyone! As promised, I'm back again with this year-end blog post, and I'm very excited because I'm reviewing another of Bethany Klassen's historical fiction books! "Tomorrows's Promise" is her newest release and a sequel to her first book, "Sins of the Past", which I reviewed here. Bethany reached out in October and asked if I'd be interested in reviewing her new book, and of course I was delighted! I recently finished it, so I'm thrilled to share with you all my honest thoughts on "Tomorrow's Promise".
Summary
Matthew Ellison thought he had left his life as a lawman far behind. But when tales surface of a killer on the loose near Albury, his experience and skill are once again put to the test. Can he earn back the townspeople’s trust while protecting those he has come to love?
Tucked out of sight on her father’s ranch, Hazel McKinney’s dreams of finding love seem to grow more distant every day. Then a chance encounter with a charming young preacher changes everything - tossing her between dreams of the future and the present stark reality.
Nathan Royce traveled West years ago to join his uncle in the ministry. Dedicated to serving the townspeople of Albury, Texas, he tackles the job with all its challenges and heartache. Then one day Nathan runs into an intriguing young woman with a faith that matches his own. Can he protect her when danger threatens their newfound friendship and possibly even her life?
My thoughts
First of all, lets just talk about this cover for a moment - it's absolutely GORGEOUS!!! XD On my bookshelf, especially alongside her other book, *chefs kiss* BEAUTIFUL! In this case, you can absolutely judge the book by its cover. ;)
Okay, moving on to the review...:P
*CONTAINS SPOILERS*
I really enjoyed this book. It was exciting, sweet, and captivating. I loved how the author used a side character in "Sins of the Past" as one of the main characters in this sequel.
Nathan Royce is the small-town pastor of Albury, TX, a close-knit community of many different types of people. He's naturally surprised, then, when he bumps (literally!) into a beautiful young woman he's never seen before.
Hazel McKinney has grown up her entire life on a secluded ranch with her over-protective father. Without a mother, Hazel has had to take on all the household responsibilities, but when she visits town and meets the handsome young preacher, her world begins to spin upside down...
Matthew and Emma Ellison couldn't be happier. Newly married and settling into their new home, everything seems to be perfect. But even after Matthew has left his life as a lawman behind, a dangerous killer is on the loose nearby, and Matthew must help to hunt him down before he takes another innocent life.
I loved the original three main characters in "Sins of the Past", but the sequel took their stories to a whole other level. Nathan's thoughts and feelings were expounded upon, which was really cool to see. As a young pastor, he wrestles with thoughts on marriage, purpose, and responsibilities to his congregation. Hazel was a wonderful add to the story. Not just the description of her physical appearance (beautiful!), but her personality as well. The loyalty she had to her father after her mothers death, and the caring and protective nature she had for her younger cousins was really sweet to see unfold. Matthew is probably my favorite character. Seeing his life change in "Sins of the Past", and now watching his struggle to embrace his new life as a husband and believer and his responsibility to protect the people around him, he is such a well-crafted character overall.
In conclusion, "Tomorrow's Promise" is a wonderful historical fiction/western story, written by a very talented young author, and I'd highly recommended it! It's great for all ages, and definitely worth the read!
